Fear to Bully

Futures Theatre Company will be touring to schools a newly developed version of their forum theatre production Fear to Bully in Autumn 2008 and Winter/Spring 2009.

This powerful, interactive production tells the story of Jules, a happy and confident young girl whose life is destroyed by bullying when she starts a new school. Her secret passion is ballroom dancing, and Fear To Bully fuses dance, physical theatre, words and music.

After sharing Jules’ struggles and despair the audience can get involved as actors or directors. As they change the course of events and triumph over Jules’ tormentors they are given an invaluable opportunity to ‘rehearse for life’ in a creative and safe environment.

Fear To Bully is a valuable addition to the PSHE and Citizenship curriculum for years 6-8, and an effective way of drawing attention to a high profile and difficult issue experienced by as many as half of pupils. Young people are equipped with the skills and confidence needed to deal with bullying, and as part of the forum workshop they develop a list of points they would like to see included and implemented in their schools’ anti-bullying policy.

The performance is accompanied by a teacher’s toolkit, including pre- and post- show lesson plans, contact details for support agencies and ideas for a whole school approach to bullying. All young people will receive a postcard with details of where to get help if they need it.
